Descriptive Texts

 


A descriptive text is a text which describes a place, a thing, or a person. It focuses on describing a single place, object, event, or person. 

Social function:

The ourpose if descriptive writing is to recreate the writer's thoughts and visual images in the mind of the reader. All descrotive texts present one ckear picture in the reader's nind. Writers create this picture by describing the subject's main feature with ckear details. The main purpose of descriptive texts id to help fge reader visualize the things that are being described. Othee purposes are to inform the readers on a particular place, thing, or person; to introduce a particular place, thing, or person. 

General structure:

1. Identification

It identifies the place, person, or thing to be described. It is usually in the first paragraph. It should have sentences that introducd tge topic you are describing to your readers. 

2. Descriptive

This part us called the body of the text. It contains a descrition of something by describing its feature, forms, parts, or anything to what tge writer describes. It contains some oaragraohs which contain your descriptions using one ir more of your five senses. 

3. Conclusion (Optional) 

It is the last paragraph. It is tge conclusion. You can restate tge thesis sentence of your first paragraph in it. 

Exercise:

Have you ever visited a waterfall, natural park, or other natural tourisn objects, or interesting buildings, monumenrs, museum, temples, etc.? Describe what make the place interesting? 

Pretend as if you were a guude describing the special peculiarities of tourism object. You can also pretend to be a tourist guide. 

Beaches: Boom, Tasikharjo, Coconut, White sand, Sowan, 

Swimming pool: Bektiharjo, Nganget, Prataan

Museum: Kambang Putih

Caves: Akbar, Suci, Ngerong, Putri Asih

Your teacher will assign you to sit in group of 12-15 students. Sit in a circle and do the following steps. 

Write a sentence about an interesting place. Start with a topic sentence. When your teacher gives a signal to stop, stop writing and give your paper to your on your right, and you'll receive your friend's paper. Continue writing a sentence on your friend's paper, one sentence at a time. Continue doing this, until your paper is back to you. 

When writing, pay attention to the following guiding questions:

1. What is the name of the place and why is it interesting? 

2. What attractions are available in this place? 

3. What is your overall impression about the place?
